Taiwan's Defense Ministry said on August 16 that aircraft and military movements of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) had been recorded in its territory, a day after China said it had conducted drills near Taiwan. The ministry said it retaliated against the drills with CAP (controlled air patrols), naval and land-based ballistic missile systems, noting that Taiwanese forces had observed Beijing's activities.
5 PLA ships and 17 PLA aircraft were detected in our vicinity until 1700 (GMT+8) today (16 August 2022). ROCAR Med Forces monitored the situation and responded to the operation with air support from CAP, naval and land-based missile systems," Taiwan's Ministry of Defense shared on Twitter.
